Install SQL Express and SQL Server Management Studio [Optional/Recommended]
In this video, we cover getting SQL Express and SSMS installed.
I've gone back and forth on how to approach this course with the database. Should we use a LocalDb File? Should we use SQLExpress? In the end, neither is right, and neither is wrong.
In some ways it is much easier to use LocalDb, especially while learning and/or working on a team [configurations are not going to conflict across machines].
In other ways, using SQLExpress is more robust, less prone to errors, and provides ability to run full backups and other data operations, as well as using SSMS to query the database is a common task any .Net developer should be able to do.
Therefore, you may choose your flavor, and/or you may come back and use the other way the next time around. It is entirely up to you.
If you're wondering, the easier way is to use the LocalDb file. The more common approach is to use SQL Express for your local development database.
